Behind-the-scenes look at assembling our first heat-sensing units. Low-cost, durable, and capable of operating offline using solar power.

informal settlement fires are recorded in South Africa every year — and most are preventable.
Fires in unprotected communities spread 3× faster due to lack of early-warning systems. With offline-capable heat sensors and GPS alerts, DeTech's Fire-Link Lite is designed to bridge this life-or-death gap.
Together we can stop the next disaster before it starts.

Sustainable Tech
Engineering Safety for the Unprotected.
Founded at the Central University of Technology (CUT), DeTech was born from a simple but urgent question: "How do we stop fire disasters before they destroy lives?"
Delight Chetter and Kabelo Makhetha joined forces to create Fire-Link Lite. We aren't just building gadgets; we are solving global challenges aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
To bridge the detection gap in underserved areas with affordable, life-saving technology.
A world where fire disasters no longer claim lives or livelihoods through early detection.
Where the spark began. The core concept of Fire-Link Lite was born during the intense brainstorming sessions at the Telkom 10X Hackathon.
Refining the technology. At the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon, we expanded the technical architecture and integrated our real-time GPS alert logic.
Moving to the real world. Under Telkom FutureMakers, we transitioned from code to hardware, building the first heat-sensing physical units.

Innovation happens in the field. We visit local communities to test our alerts and gather feedback to ensure the technology serves their specific safety needs.

Meeting with professional firefighting teams to align the DeTech GPS system with official emergency response protocols.
Working with fire prevention teams to build our online educational platform. The best fire is the one that never starts.
